Water Drop

When the temperatures begin to fall, the risk of your pipes and water meter freezing and bursting increases.  The pipes most at risk are the ones in unheated interior spaces such as basements, attics and garages.  Even pipes running along exterior walls can freeze.

There are some simple things you can do to keep your pipes from freezing:

Install pipe insulation. This can be purchased at most home improvement stores.

  • Open kitchen and bathroom cabinets to let warm air in to circulate around plumbing.
  • If you have any water pipes in the garage, keep the door closed.
  • Shut off valves to outside spigots and drain.
  • On the coldest of days, let a faucet drip.
